? Galleries host diverse arts for First Friday

?Life?s Poetry? Jeanne Young - Picture Alaska
New on the scene, the Photo Art Depot Gallery grand opening and First Friday event features original art in acrylics by Elizabeth Garvey. She is noted for her bold and generous application of medium and her use of brilliant color. Originals and prints will be available.
They will also be showing jewelry creations by Garvey and Stephanie Alward. Elizabeth and Stephanie will be on hand to visit with guests. The gallery is having an hourly door prize drawing as part of their grand opening festivities.
Ptarmigan Arts features Steven Panarelli with his new Bonsai-inspired wire art sculpture, as well as other offerings, for First Friday and the month of August. Four years in the making, Panarelli?s show reflects the intersection between machine and nature.
Panarelli said his current work?s mood is a reflection of life experiences and stories from the last few years.
Homer Council on the Arts is retaining their artists? shows from last month, Alice Shaw and Ruby Haigh, with some new works on display.
The Art Shop Gallery is featuring Anchorage jewelry artist Liz Bowen of Glacier Glass for their First Friday art reception. Bowen?s collection of new work in glass, semi-precious stones and silver will be on display.
She will also be on-hand to greet visitors Saturday from 11 a.m.- 5 p.m.
Bunnell Street Gallery exhibit features Inuit artists and old friends, Ron Senungetuk and Abraham Anghik Ruben.
Senungetuk creates carved silver maple wood reliefs, painted with vibrant oil stains, while Ruben creates soapstone and bronze sculptures featuring Inuit imagery. The artists will give an exhibit tour at 6 p.m. during the opening reception.
Fireweed Gallery presents FISH.PEOPLE.BOATS by George Maurer, a multimedia artist who lives in Homer in summer.
Maurer is a classically trained artist who has studied at the University of Oregon and under the apprenticeship tradition.
This exhibit focuses on Maurer?s motivation to draw and paint several of the powerful evocative elements of Homer. He added that he is drawing a boat a day to be exhibited the following day at the gallery in the spirit of changing quality and freshness that he finds in his subjects.
Picture Alaska art gallery presents ?Life?s Poetry,? a debut of new oil paintings by Palmer artist Jeanne Young.
Jeanne writes about her current show, ?From gardening to dance to boating, our every day lives in Alaska run the range of wildly exciting to downright civilized. I love painting the simple beauty that makes up each day.?
Each gallery hosts its First Friday reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on August 3.
